Baked Apples

Delicious baked apples

4 large cooking apples
50g Raisens /sultanas
25g Soft brown sugar
4 tsp Golden syrup
25g Butter
1/2 tsp Cinnamon


Remove the cores from the apples, using a corer or a sharp knife.
Lightly score the skin around the middle of the apple - (this prevents the apple from bursting during cooking)

Place apples into a ovenproof dish. Mix together the fruit, sugar and cinnamon. Fill the apples with the mixture.

Drizzle 1tsp of golden syrup over each apple and top with a little butter.
Cover loosely with foil and bake in a moderate oven 40 - 50 mins. Serve hot, on its own or with a little custard or cream.


 

Tip ~ Try using different fillings ~ fruits like chopped dried apricots, figs, dates, also try nuts, pecans and walnuts. And, how about other spices, ground ginger, mixed spice.

Try adding a splash or two of Rum, Brandy, Orange liqueur, Amaretto, Red or White Wine, Cider or Chambord - gives the most amazing flavours to the apples. - Drunken apples! : )
